That bold and fabulous 5/8" orange cotton twill ribbon was the perfect embellishment for that bright and sunny card! I love Stepanie's coloring, the stitching and use of die cuts!

And then she did AGAIN with some ivory cotton twill ribbon on THIS beautiful card!

We've got this cotton twill ribbon these two colors and 9 others in the store!

Spotlight Tutorial with Els Brigé: Using ribbon and twine on a layout.

Hi there! I'm so thrilled to be here today to share my very first spotlight tutorial with you.

Those of you that have been following me a while now, know I am a passionate scrapbooker. So I wanted to show you today some of the possible ways to use ribbon and twine on a layout. This happens to be my very first video as well. I hope you enjoy it.

Using ribbon and twine on a layout tutorial.
By: Els Brigé
Supplies: Black/Ivory Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Gabardine & Antique Gold Vintage Seam Binding, Antique Ruler Twill Ribbon, Buttercream Light Yellow baker's twine - The Twinery.

These are just a few of the many possible ways to include soft materials to your pages. I love to take a break from patterned papers sometimes and challenge myself to use ribbon and twine instead. I hope you got inspired to turn to ribbon for a layout as well. I'll see you next month with a new spotlight tutorial.

Els.

is challenging us to make some flowers out of ribbon, fabric, felt, or burlap! (Or you can just add pretty flowers to your project!)

We would love for you to play along with us!   Up for grabs is a $5 gift certificate to the Ribbon Carousel Store!

Check out what some of our Ribbon Carousel Crewmates
have created for a little inspiration:

RCC54_AllAboutTheFlowers_DanielleLounds

Your creation can be anything from cards, quilts, sewn items, paper crafts, paintings! *** Be sure to have ribbon, bakers twine, jute twine, lace, thread (basically anything that comes on a spool). ***

We'd love for you to join us this week! Here are the details:
  • Make your NEW creation following the ribbon carousel challenge of the week. Any submissions made prior to the challenge date will be deleted. Be sure to include some type of ribbon, twine, hemp, lace....basically, anything that comes on a spool.
  • Load your creation up onto your blog or a public viewing forum like Splitcoast Stampers, (use the keyword RCC54) with a direct link back to THIS post. Including the challenge graphic isn't a requirement, but sure is appreciated! (A participant of our very first challenge didn't link back or mention our challenge and couldn't be named Top Spool, so don't let that happen to you!)
  • Link up your creation using the Inlinkz button at the bottom of this post. Your image may take a little while to pop up, but don't worry, it will appear shortly.
  • Come back the Friday after the challenge ends to see if YOU are a Top Spool!

Quick & Easy Cards using Ribbon Scraps

Hello there!!  Debbie Carriere here with a fun way to use up all those ribbon scraps you inevitably have lying around :)  I throw all my ribbon scraps into a small plastic container that is kept next to my Ribbon Carousels.  Every once in a while I will use some pieces on a card for ribbon tabs or flags or some other small accent, but too often I end up tossing them.  Today I am going to show you a simple way to use them up and create some quick and easy cards.

Here's what you need - coordinating ribbon scraps and a piece of chipboard cut to any width and a length equal to the width (or length of your card).  The width of your chipboard will probably be determined by how large the pieces of ribbon you want to use are.  I cut my piece of chipboard to 1-1/2" x 4".

I used some Twill ribbon, satin/grosgrain double band, satin edge grosgrain, and even threw in a piece of cluny lace.  Apply adhesive on one side of the chipboard piece.  I used red line tape, but your usual dry adhesive for cards would work just as well.

Working from one edge start laying your ribbon scraps on the adhesive (so that there is an equal length overhanging each side of the chipboard).  You may need to overlap pieces here and there depending on the widths of your ribbon in relation to the length of your chipboard piece.  Here is my arrangement.

Turn the piece over.  You are now going to wrap those ribbon ends around to the back side and adhere them so the front is nice and neat :)  I used Fabri-Tac, which drys quickly and has a very strong bond.

I wrapped one side at a time and applied a bit of pressure for a minute to insure a nice bond.  The back side isn't pretty, but the front side is a colorful feast for the eyes full of texture.

I have used this piece as the focal point for a simple card.  (You may notice I ended up adding another piece of the teal twill ribbon over the original panel.)  A sentiment on a label die cut with just one simple embellishment - a button tied with Black Licorice Divine Twine finishes off the card in record time :)

While I was rummaging around in my ribbon scraps bin, I made another scrappy panel.  This time I used a longer piece of chipboard to fit the length of my card.  Ribbons used here are Brown twill, Ivory satin/horizontal stripe, and Woven ivory/lavendar checked ribbon.

Once again, I used a simple layout and just one embellishment to finish this card.  I hope I have inspired you to save and use those ribbon scraps!  Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!
